Kerrygold Giveaway
This giveaway is now closed. Congratulations to Tina R.! We hope you enjoy all that fabulous cheese and buttah!
This post is a long time coming. Last year, I had the privilege of participating in a blogger contest for Kerrygold Cheese and Butter. Kerrygold asked us to review and highlight the virtues of their newest products, Naturally Softer Pure Irish Butter and Reduced Fat Irish Butter.
I had an absolute blast creating four compound butters: Maple Honey Nut Butter, Mexican Hot Chocolate Butter, Pumpkin Spice Brown Sugar Butter, and Texas Gold Butter.
Texas Gold was by far my favorite, though each is delicious in its own way. Texas Gold, however, I could eat on a shoe and be happy. It combines garlic and onion, salt and pepper, cheddar, and paprika - flavors familiar to Texas foodies. They often make an appearance in Texas cuisine, barbecue and otherwise.
I'm so pleased to tell you that I happened to win Kerrygold's Reduced Fat and Naturally Softer Pure Irish Butter Great Ideas Blogger Contest!
Even if I'd never had the opportunity to participate in the Kerrygold contest, or win it, I'd be writing to you about their fabulous cheese and butters. We purchased Kerrygold when we lived in the UK, and we were so happy to find it when we landed in New Jersey.
All of Kerrygold's butters are of the very highest quality. Their cows live a happy life in fields of Irish green, and you can see it in the butter. As they say, the proof is in the pudding, or in this case, the golden color found naturally in Kerrygold's butter due to all the beta carotene in the grass the cows munch on all their lives.
I could wax poetic about the cheeses Kerrygold offers. By far my favorite is the Aged Cheddar with Irish Whiskey. I could eat this cheese every day for the rest of my life and call it good. It's nutty, it's creamy, and the whiskey asking yourself, "just what is that party on my tongue?".
To celebrate my contest win, I asked Kerrygold if I could create a giveaway basket to give to one of you so that you'd have the chance to experience all my favorite Kerrygold products. Hooray for Kerrygold being generous, because they said yes!

I would pick Duhallow. They had a recipe with asparagus that sounded good. Also, I recently saw a recipe for Skillet Macaroni and Cheese with broccoli. In the winter when grapes are in season (nice and sweet), my husband and I have grapes and cheese and crackers for dinner at least once or twice a week. It's yummy.

I would definitely use the Kerrygold Cashel Blue wheel to make my beet and blue cheese salad.
Roast the beets and peel the beets, then slice into 1/4" wheels then slice into half moons.
Toss those with sour cream, dill and toasted nuts (usually walnuts) then fold in the blue cheese. Let it set in the fridge for at least an hour and serve cold or at room temp.

Aged cheddar with irish whiskey in some mac and cheese. The simpler the better!

I know it's not fancy, but a few slices of Dubliner Kerrygold cheese melted in a grilled cheese sandwich, topped with arugula and some roasted red pepper slices is my idea of a great way to use this cheese.
We make a TON of what we call "cheesecake toast" at our house. It's toasted and buttered bread top with homemade jam and cheese. I'd love to try it with the Gold Label Cheddar!

Honestly - I'm not sure how much would make it into my cooking because I'd probably end up eating it all first. I LOVE cheese! If I did cook w/ it would probably be on cheese pizza, in a quesadilla, or something to do w/ pasta. 🙂 Yummy.
I'd make a sophisticated Mac n Cheese combining more than one cheese. Blarney Castle and Duhallow would make the cut.
