Southern Pecan Milkshakes & a Giveaway

When I was a kid, my dad was the king of two things: hamburgers and milkshakes. My dad could eat a hamburger for every meal of the day. And he could quite happily drink a vanilla milkshake every day too. (Not that my mother would ever let him.)

The other day, James and I received our Green Mountain Coffee shipment for the month. In it, I had chosen one of my favorite Southern treats, their Southern Pecan blend.

The coffee on its own elicits scents of the pies my home is made of. Pecans are a cash crop of Texas, and pecan pie is one of our specialties, and one of my dad’s favorite kinds of pie.

The more I thought about the glorious sweet and nutty tones of the Southern Pecan coffee, the more I knew that I had to pair it with vanilla ice cream.

You see, my dad is the definition of a Texan. He loves pecans, and pecan pie. When it comes to milkshakes, however, he was never the guy to go for the more exciting chocolate or strawberry milkshakes Whataburger had to offer. He appreciated the simple brilliance of a beautifully creamy vanilla milkshake over anything else.

I just know, though, that when I combine his favorite milkshake flavor with his favorite pie flavor, I’ve got a winner. Father’s Day is on Sunday, and if I could, I’d make this milkshake for my dad.

I can’t wait to send him a West Bend Milkshake Maker so he can make his own Southern Pecan milkshakes. At least if we can’t be together this Father’s Day, we can toast our Southern Pecan milkshakes together over the phone.

Love you, Dad!

P.S. If you’re wondering about that buttery caramel popcorn it’s paired with in the photo, the recipe for that will come later this week. Talk about a match made in Heaven.

It would really be awesome to have the 74706 – Countertop Oven with Rotisserie! Can you just imagine ~ not having to use the oven in the Summer? You can do SO much with a rotisserie. Thanks for offering this contest too! I really enjoy your page on facebook!

I’d be quite happy with the 4 Qt. Wooden Bucket Ice Cream Maker for this summer, but I also have my eyes on the 10 Cup Rice Cooker and the Versatility Cooker (I really would love to saute onions and the like before putting the slow cooker on the base!).

OK, I’ve been working on a milkshake for dessert for two this week–this is perfect! I gotta have it! But, another West Brend item I would like is: IT400 iced tea maker. I make my iced tea on the stovetop, and a real machine would be so nice! Fun giveaway :)

  11. Jan A says

I would love the 88010-10 Cup Rice Cooker. I don’t know why, but rice is also difficult for me.

  12. Heather says

I’m subscribed to bluebonnets & brownies email updates! I love cooking/baking so I’m excited for new recipe ideas!

I like oblong slow cooker, need one. My kids love oxtail soup and it took forever in the regular pot to cook it.

  14. Allison Coe says

I don’t have a slow cooker and the 84966 – Versatility Cooker looks pretty sweet!

  15. says

I think that the 68303 Iced Tea Maker would be a big winner in my household. I can just imagine all of the tropical teas I could make.

  16. says

Love the southern pecan milkshake..creative and looks/sounds amazing. As for the giveaway..I think I’d love the rice cooker. I’ve never had one, and I’m sick of forgetting about my rice and buring the bottom of the pot.

  17. Jessica C. says

I want the 4 Qt. Wooden Bucket Ice Cream Maker! It *looks* old-fashioned, but really it does all the work for you. Love it!

  18. Sandy says

Oh my goodness! Browsing throught the catalog, I could envision quite a few items from the catalog that would be awesome. I have 4 children, who, of course, are hungry all the time. We do the usual baseball sports for the boys and my little girl is in dance. We love and appreciate family time, so movies and popcorn are a perfect combination for us. It is an easy way to gather and touch base and enjoy laughing and giggling together. I would LOVE to have the 82514 – Stir Crazy® Theater Popper, 4 oz.

  19. says

I’d love to have a blender like the Smoothie Elite – my current blender doesn’t really work at all – and I just love that easy dispenser at the bottom!

Part 1 of my entry! — So, I’m not going to lie, I jumped for joy a little bit when I found the Cocoa Grande maker on the West Bend site. Maybe you think I’m crazy, but when the AC in my house is on so high that I am wearing a sweatshirt inside in the middle of AUGUST, I have a weirdo craving for hot, creamy cocoa (marshmallows necessary). Love it!
