Bluebonnets, brownies, and other goodies.

Hello world.

No really, hi! If you’re here, it’s probably because you know me personally, and have been given the link to this site. So first let me say, thanks for reading. Now let’s delve into what this little corner of the interweb is going to be used for.

Those of you that know me well know two big things about me: I love to cook, and I am expressly proud of being a Texan. I don’t live in Texas anymore. But what they say is true. You can take the girl out of Texas, but you can’t take the Texas out of the girl.

Growing up there, my grandmother loved letting my sister and I stir the bowl, flip the pancake, and lick the giant spoon. Her gift to me has been to bestow me with all sorts of recipes from around the world. When I first moved out of the house, she gave me my very first cookbook. I credit my Nan with so much, but more than anything, she is the inspiration for this blog. I want to share with you what she has shared with me since I was a tiny girl, stood on the stepping stool in her kitchen, making birthday cakes and sausage gravy.

So this blog is going to be about the food I grew up cooking. It’s nothing like anything I’ve had anywhere else in the world, and I want to share it with other people. I have a passion for cooking, but I think that everyone has an inner chef. They just need to be shown what to do. Cooking can be a great way to relax. Yet so many people stress about it, or claim ‘I don’t know how to cook’. I think anyone can cook (to quote a recently released Disney Pixar film about a rat).

For those of you that don’t know me, I come from a beautiful place called San Antonio. It is a uniquely metropolitan city that feels like a small town. People are nice. The streets are clean. And the food, oh the food. The food is amazing. Many a San Antonian will tell you that the Mexican food found in San Antonio is unlike Mexican food you will have anywhere else in the state, maybe even the world.

Keep checking back here for recipes and step by step photos on the finest things I know how to cook, directly from my kitchen.

The first two recipes should be brownies (surprise!) and banana muffins, because I’ve got some browning bananas that need saving.

And because my husband is British, and when we lived in England, trying to convert food names, measurements, etc, into ‘English’, drove me crazy, I will be posting all my recipes with British equivalents and measurements where I can.
